2025 Sewing Machinery Industry Standardization Work Conference Successfully Held

On December 17, the 2025 Sewing Machinery Industry Standardization Work Conference was held in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. The meeting was attended by Yang Xiaojing, Chairman of the China Sewing Machinery Association (CSMA); Chen Ji, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CSMA, as well as Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the National Technical Committee for Sewing Machinery Standardization (SAC/TC 152); Lin Jianlong, Chief Supervisor of CSMA; members of SAC/TC 152; and representatives from organizations undertaking standard drafting and revision tasks. More than 50 participants attended the meeting, which was chaired by Xu Dong, Vice Secretary General of CSMA.



At the meeting, Chen Ji presented a summary of the annual work of the Standardization Technical Committee. In 2025, in accordance with national requirements and the guidance of competent authorities, SAC/TC 152 actively fulfilled its responsibilities, completing the review and approval submission of 12 national and industry standards, and developing two green group standards, including the Quantification Method for Carbon Footprint of Sewing Machinery. The committee also organized research on the industry’s “15th Five-Year Plan” standard system and key standardization tasks. In addition, SAC/TC 152 actively promoted standard implementation and internationalization efforts, effectively supporting and guiding the industry’s high-quality development. Chen Ji also conveyed the latest policies, directives, and requirements on standardization work from higher-level authorities, and, in light of industry conditions, outlined the committee’s work plan for the next stage.
The meeting focused on soliciting opinions and conducting discussions on three national standards—Test Method for Thickness Sewing Capability Sewing Machines, Safety Requirements for Sewing Machinery – Part 1: Sewing Machines, Sewing Units and Sewing Systems, and General Technical Conditions for Computer Control Systems of Household Sewing Machines—as well as five industry standards, including Test Method for Energy Consumption of Sewing Machinery – Part 4: Overhead Conveyor Systems for Garment Production, Industrial Sewing Machines – High-Speed Needle-Feed Lockstitch Sewing Machines, Industrial Sewing Machines – Cylinder-Bed Lockstitch Sewing Machines with Compound Feed, Industrial Sewing Machines – Method for Testing Noise Level, and Numerical Control Cutting Machines – Part 1: General Technical Conditions. The meeting required all drafting organizations to carefully revise and optimize the standard texts in accordance with the comments and suggestions raised, in order to further improve overall standard quality.

In his concluding remarks, Chairman Yang Xiaojing expressed sincere appreciation to all committee members for their long-standing support and dedicated efforts in standardization work. He comprehensively reviewed the significant achievements made during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period in four areas: strengthening the standardization organizational system, improving standardization management mechanisms and procedures, enhancing the targeted supply of standards, and achieving breakthroughs in international standardization. At the same time, he pointed out existing shortcomings, including lagging supply of standards for emerging productivity, an insufficient proportion of standards in key areas such as green and low-carbon development and digital-intelligent transformation, limited leading and guiding effects of standards with updates failing to keep pace with technological innovation, inadequate efforts in standard promotion and implementation with an overemphasis on formulation over dissemination, as well as structural shortages of standardization professionals, insufficient reserves of drafting experts, and a lack of international standardization talent.
Looking ahead to standardization work during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, Chairman Yang clearly outlined four key tasks:
First, further improve industry standardization mechanisms. This includes refining the rolling three-year plan for standard formulation and revision, and giving full play to the role of lead drafting organizations, which should not only take the lead in name but also assume full responsibility, thereby enhancing the timeliness and quality of standard development.
Second, further innovate standardization management models. This involves preparing the Industry Standardization Development Plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan to ensure that standard technical indicators advance in step with industrial upgrading. Efforts should also be made to strengthen standard promotion and implementation through diversified approaches such as “Standard Cloud Classrooms” and “Standards at a Glance.”
Third, further deepen the layout of digital and intelligent standards. Focusing on the integrated development of new-generation information technologies and traditional processes, the industry should expand and upgrade the application of digital technologies, and strive to seize the high ground in international standards and industrial development.
Fourth, further strengthen talent cultivation and empowerment. By carrying forward the tradition of “senior experts mentoring and young professionals gaining practical experience,” young talents should be entrusted with major responsibilities through participation in standard formulation and revision, enabling them to gain experience, build resilience, and enhance capabilities. Accelerated efforts should be made to establish a composite talent pool featuring a balanced age structure, complementary professional strengths, and integrated theoretical and practical expertise.
Chairman Yang called on all experts to continue working together with renewed commitment to formulate, revise, promote, and implement industry standards effectively, so that standards can truly play a technical supporting role in modernizing the industry’s governance system and governance capacity. He also urged SAC/TC 152 and its Electrical Subcommittee to further optimize their working mechanisms, strictly control standard development timelines, improve efficiency, and enhance text quality, thereby injecting strong momentum into the industry’s high-quality development.
